The Ministry of Overseas Development recently telegraphed Hong Kong concerning a forthcoming visit by John Marah, the Director of the British Institute of Management, to the Far East. Hong Kong's reply indicated that the Hong Kong Management Association would be arranging a programme for his visit, while that Association, in a recent letter to Marsh, asked who would be making his arrangements: As you may know, Marsh was involved in the recent discussions in London with P. Y. Tang (organised by TETOC) on the ways in which TETOC generally and the BIM in the field of management education might be able to assist the projected Polytechnic.

Before arriving in Hong Kong Marsh will be in India on a visit sponsored by TETOC, and while there will be in the care of Sir Morrice James - they are old friends. He leaves Bombay by Swissair Flight 304F on 27 October, and will arrive at Kai Tak at 1605 hours. I understand that arrangements are being made for him to stay at the Mandarin Hotel. He will depart on Saturday morning, 1 November, for a World Management Conference in Tokyo.

Certain arrangements have already been made for this visit, either through personal contacts or through TETOC. His itinerary at present is :-

Monday, 27 October Tuesday, 28 October

Wednesday, 29 October

Thursday, 30 October

Friday, 31 October

Saturday, 1 November

Arrives 1605.

Luncheon with P. Y. Tang, in his capacity of Chairman of the Polytechnic Planning Committee.

Bailey, the Secretary of the UGC, will probably be with him all day, discussing technical education. We do not have precise details.

Marsh will address a luncheon of the Hong Kong Association (sic).

No arrangements

Depart for Tokyo.

Marah is anxious that his programme should be filled as

extensively as possible, and he would like to meet Government officials for discussions on management and educational problems. Perhaps a working dinner and/or an afternoon of discussions with Terence Sorby, Hetherington and, maybe, John Canning would meet the bill? Ho already has letters of introduction to Vice-Chancellor Robinson and

❘ to the

Sir Hugh Norman-Walker, KCMG., OBE.,

35

Colonial Secretary,

HONG KONG.
