we reached a provisional agrocment in 1962 which includcd
transitional arrangemento for cotton textiles from India
and Pakistan whereby the common external tariff would bo
applica gradually to imports of those goods into the
United Kingdom in order to mitigate the impact on India and
Pakistaa of cur entry. into the Community. It was alco
envisaged that, before the end of the transitional perict
the enlarged Community would negotiate trade agreomonto
with India and Pakistan designod to maintain and, if possibLO
increase their export earnings and to help their development
plano. During our consultations with them in 1967, the
Indian and Pakistan Governmento strecced the impontaneo
which they attached to the provisionel agrooment of 1962.
In his statement to the WED Council in July, 1967, Hr. BroVIA
reaffirmed our wish to revive tho agrocment in futuro
