With tho Committoo's advico and assistance, a questionnaire was
drawn up sooking rolovant information regarding tho trado in cotton taxtilos
with Britain. It is boing postod to manufacturors and tradors known to
the Department of Commorco and Industry as being involved in this sector.
Mr. Sorby said ho was confident the firms approached would co-oporato
in the succossful complotion of tho survoy.
"Wo aro aware that much of the information wo sock can bo classified
as trado socrots, but I assure all concornod wo shall respect thoir confidonco.
"My staff will oxtract and aggrogato the facts and figuros in
such a way that tho business affairs of individual companios cannot bo
idontifiod," he explained.
To assist firms in completing the questionnairos, officers of tho
Commorco and Industry Department will call and help them compile the nocossary
data.
On the uso to which the findings of the survoy would bo put, Mr. Sorby
said it was impossible to prodict this boforo its quality and comprehensiveness
had boon assossed.
When the basic analysis was comploted, probably in early Fobruary,
ho planned again to consult his Advisory Committoo on its content, and than,
in accordance with the Committoo's torms of roferonco, to roport its
conclusions and rocommondations to the Textiles Advisory Board.
