Dear Bob,
5711
1 November
When I was last in London we discussed the talks you were expecting to have with representative(s) of the European Commission in early December, and we agreed that it would be desirable that both Derek Jones and Pat Dodge (Hong Kong's man in Brussels) should be present.
2.
Dodge has just been out here for our CTA negotiation with the Germans and we have had some discussions on the Common Commercial Policy and our attitude to it. I've asked him to get in touch with you (and Derek) about the likely time and place for your meeting.
3.
I wonder if you could let me have a line or two on what the scope of these talks is likely to be. Perhaps you would also let me know if there is any particular information that you would like to be available?
4.
I am due in the Hague in the week beginning 17 November for talks on extending our cotton agreement with the Benelux and am thinking of paying my next visit to London in the following week.
