Hong Kong and the E.E.C.
At the BNEC (Asia) Committee on 30th October the question was asked whether any estimates existed (and could be circulated for the Committee's information) of the probable effect on Hong Kong's economy of her joining the E.E.C.
2. I remarked in a lighthearted way that consider- able difficulty surrounded the preparation of agreed estimates of the effect in our own case and the point was taken. Nevertheless it was felt that Hong Kong has probably done some calculations on this subject and we were asked to enquire if the results were known to us.
3. Could you please see (in conjunction with F.C.0. whether any work has been done on this and what if anything could be said to the Committee?
