Control over hours of work

1. There is legislative control over the hours of work for women, young persons and children in manufacturing industry. The maximum permitted for any person aged 14 or 15 is

48 hours a week. Hours of work of women and young persons are being progressively reduced over a four year period by 1971, also to 48 hours.

Service Industries

The Hong Kong Government proposes legislation to introduce statutory rest days for women and young persons in shops and services trades. The Department of Labour is also examining conditions of employment of young persons in the hotel and

restaurant trades.
