Meanwhile, a considerable amount of work has been done on a possible scheme, radically different from that cur- rently in operation, for providing legal aid in criminal cases. For the purpose of discussion, a draft set of entirely new rules has been prepared and is being sent to the Hon Secretary of your Association. A copy of the draft is enclosed here- with.

If the Association would wish to make any written. observations on this draft or to participate in discussions relating to it perhaps the Hon. Secretary could let the Registrar know. The views of the Law Society will be sought at the same time.

Referring to your letter of the 20th inst., I would have no objection to the publication to your members of my letters of 25th September and 9th December as well as this letter.

Your sincerely,

(Sd.) MICHAEL HOGAN

Chief Justice.
