On the 26th August, 1967 at 1300 hrs. three large processions took place in the vicinity of Central Market, Des Voeux Road. 1,000 persons took part, many of them being schoolchildren who were protesting against the education system in Hong Kong,

One procession of about 600 persons marched along Des Voeux Road, towards the east. They carried banners, shouted slogans of an inflammatory nature and carried portraits of Mao. This procession had a leader who lead the chanting of slogans. was heard to shout "Down with the British Empire", "To resist atrocities is reasonable".

A Police corporal in plain clothes accompanied the procession and was close to the leader. When a Riot Company arrived the crowd started to scatter and the corporal arrested the leader WONG Chak. A fierce struggle ensued on the pavement during which WONG Chak produced a dagger from his twvuser pocket.

Another Police officer joined the struggle and the leader was eventually overpowered. Both Police officers received cut wounds on their hands from the dagger. They also had abrasions and bruising.
