Ceas Mr. Gaminara,

12

You will wish to know we are arranging our usual annual visit to the Services in Far East Command by a party of ten M.Ps./Peers in September. U.S. of S. (RAF) has approved in principle the inclusion of Hong Kong in the visit.

The first object of the visit is to enable the party to see something of the work of the Services overseas, but the visitors are sure to ask to see local political leaders; equally you may feel that courtesy calls on the latter should be made.

We have asked the Commander-in-Chief to obtain the High Commissioner's views on this subject before drawing up the outline programme, due here by 9th May. We shall of course, seek your views when the time comes, but in the meantime shall be glad to know whether you have any objections in principle to the arranging of political calls of this kind.

Yours sincerely,

filcutting.
