April, 1969
Sir Albert Rodrigues, in a letter sent recently to Mr. Sedgwick (a copy of which is attached) conveyed an invitation to the Right Honourable Edward Heath, M.B.E., M. P. to visit Hong Kong sometime in January, 1970. This invitation was made on behalf of the Unofficial Members of Executive and Legislative Councils.
Previous invitations to Members of Parliament to visit Hong Kong have been made through the Hong Kong Association. However, in view of Mr. Heath's position as Leader of the Opposition, and the fact that Mr. Anthony Royle had suggested the visit, it was decided that the invitation should be issued by UMELCO.
This reflects, too, a feeling by UMELCO that the local Branch of the Hong Kong Association has played too large a part as host on recent occasions of visits by Members of Parliament.
