16. Do the rules about employment apply to Northern Ireland as well?

Special rules apply to Northern Ireland. A person who is not a "Northern Ireland worker" (this means a person who was born in Northern Ireland, or whose husband or wife was born there, or who satisfies certain residential conditions) needs a special Northern Ireland employment permit, which will be issued only if he has a definite job to go to. Application should be made by the prospective employer to the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Stormont, Belfast 4.

17. If I obtain a voucher, will I be allowed to stay in the United Kingdom as long as I like and change my job if I want to?

Yes.

18. If I get a voucher, may I bring my dependants with me? A voucher holder may bring his wife with him and children under 16 years of age. For information about children over 16 and other relatives, see paragraph 26. You may apply for an entry certificate (see paragraph 12) for any member of your family who wants to come with you-but only after you have got your voucher.

19. Will I need a voucher if I am coming as an apprentice or trainee?

If you intend to settle in the United Kingdom, you will need to have a voucher but there are special arrangements for the admis- sion, without vouchers, of apprentices and trainees who want to come for a limited period. A firm or organisation that wishes to offer an apprenticeship or a period of training for a limited period to a Commonwealth citizen should apply to the local office of the Ministry of Labour. If the application is approved, the Common- wealth citizen will be able to obtain an entry certificate (see paragraph 12).

Certain people who come to the United Kingdom for training under officially sponsored schemes, such as the Colombo Plan, will be admitted on production of written evidence of sponsorship to the Immigration Officer, or, better, they may apply for entry certificates.
