Mr. TAH Kan,
lisin Hua News Agency,
No.5 Sharp Street best, HONG KONG.
Dear Mr. Tan,
Office of The kater Authority,
Windsor House, 3rd floor,
Hong Kong.
29th June, 1967.
24
At a meeting held with Representatives of the People's Council of Xwanptung Province on Thursday, 10th November, 1966, it was our understanding that the Hong Kong Waterworks could be supplied with water from the East River during the months of July, August and September provided we gave at least one month's notice of our monthly requirements.
2.
In accordance with this understanding I wrote to you on 23rd May, 1967 giving notice of our desire to draw 2,000 million gall- ons during July in the same daily quantities (i.e. 65 million gallons a day) as we had been doing for the past several months. I now wish to give formal one month's notice of our wish to draw a further 2,000 million gallons during the month of August in addition to that previously requested for the month of July.
3.
You are no doubt aware that we have recently had to reduce our supply hours to four hours on alternate days. This was necessary because, with consumption at 120 million gallons a day and a storage of 3221 million gallons on June 26th, we could not maintain a daily supply without supplementing our yield from the East River.
4.
I trust that you will forward this request to the Kwangtung Authorities and that they will find it possible to supply us with water during the months of July and August. I shall write to you again before the end of July to let you know if we wish to be supplied with water from the East River during September,
Yours faithfully,
Sd. A.S. Robertson
Actg. Director of Water Supplies
