42. DINING AND REST ROOMS. When permission is granted for the employment of women and young persons on an approved scheme of shift work between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. a suitable room in which no industrial process is carried on must be provided and equipped for their use as a dining and rest room.

43. HOURS OF WORK AND PERIODS OF EMPLOYMENT OF WOMEN AND YOUNG PERSONS. Women and young persons working in industrial undertakings must not be employed beyond the limits shown in the table below, age being determined by European reckoning.

44. NOTICES. A notice in the prescribed form (part A of form LD/HW1) must be posted up in every industrial undertaking in which women and young persons are employed, fixing the actual hours of work, rest intervals, and rest days which must be in accordance with the limits referred to in paragraph 43. A copy signed by the proprietor or his authorised agent must be sent to the Commissioner not later than the day on which the original notice is posted up.

45. The hours of work and rest intervals fixed by the notice must be the same for all women and young persons employed in a particular under- taking, except in the case of young persons under 16 years, unless the Commissioner gives permission to the contrary.

46. No change must be made in the hours of work or intervals in any notice unless a revised notice is posted up and a copy is sent to the Commissioner not less than 48 hours before the proposed change is to come into force. Such changes must not be made more often than once in every three months unless special permission is given by the Commissioner.

47. OVERTIME-GENERAL. Young persons under the age of 16 years must not work overtime but overtime, i.e. work in the undertaking outside the normal period of employment fixed by the notice, is permissible, subject to certain conditions, for women and young persons of 16 years and over.

48. NON-REPORTABLE OVERTIME. Where the normal hours of work are less than ten a day and pressure of work on any particular day makes it desirable for the undertaking to increase working hours up to a maximum of ten, no report to the Commissioner is required provided that the overtime work takes place between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. but a notice must be posted in the undertaking in the prescribed form (form LD/HW2) before the overtime work starts, giving particulars of the hours which will be worked on that day and when intervals for rest will be given. No spell of work must exceed five hours in length and the notice must be kept posted until the overtime is completed.
