8. Warning and Notice.

Assuming an adequate period of warning

normally 75% of Strategic Transport aircraft of Air Support

Command could be at 72 hours notice.

However some base training

aircraft could be made available at 12 hours notice for route

activation, and up to three Strategic Transport aircraft could

be made available within 24 hours. The remainder of the

Strategic Transport force could be generated at the rate of one aircraft every four hours. It might be pssible to deploy transport aircraft of Far East Air Force to Kong Kong whilst forces from the United Kingdom were deploying to the theatre. Ships would be dependent on the day to day disposition of the Far East Fleet, but any warning which could be given would have a marked effect on the arrival times of ships at Hong Kong. Hong Kong guardship would be permanently at four hours notice to sail, and co ld provide a normal lift of up to 120 persons.

The

Destination. An existing Far East theatre paan (Plan ACCESS) for reception of evacuees in Singapore/Malaya might be utilised, although in exceptional circumstances it might be necessay to move evacuees to Phillipines/Taiwan.

Completion of the Evacuation

Using the above forces the evacuation could be completed in

days. However, should it be possible to make use of merchant shipping and civilian aircraft, the time taken could be reduced accordingly.
