The Chung Wah School and Visas for the British Mission in Peking

Problem

In Hong Kong telegram No. 968 the

Governor discusses whether the delay in

granting further exit visas to members of the

Mission in Peking is connected with the

decision to deregister the Chung Wah School.

He thinks that the Chinese may be waiting to

see whether the formal notification of

is reamin

Mr. Muling deregistration which will have to be made by

Jon Densm

13 August when the original closure order

given

is actually made. He considers that

expires

to go back on the decision to deregister would

have a very bad effect He suggests that to

bring pressure on the Chinese to grant visas

proposing but is withing to relence You detainees before 13 August we should reactivate the

Courted Veiting

as a

gesyme-

diplomatic offensive. We have to decide

whether to press the Governor to reconsider the

decision on the deregistration of the Chung

Warr School and whether to reactivate the

diplomatic offensive at this stage.
