the "supreme court" illegally "rulea" that the paper should "compensate the plaintiff", a.w. olivier, head of the kowloon electrical workshop, "public works department". it also forbade the paper from carrying further stories about the "plaintiff".

as early as august 28, the british hongkong authorities instigated olivier to send a letter to the "wen wei pao", alleging that the paper "Libelled" him in an article on the sanguinary suppression of workers by the british hongkong authorities. he demanded that the paper withdraw this article and apologize to him.

this shameless intimidation was turned down by the patriotic chinese paper.

then olivier brought a suit against the "wen wei pao" on the charge of "Libel".

on november 25, the british hongkong authorities, disregarding the strong opposition and warnings from patriotic hongkong chinese, brazenly "tried" the "wen wei pao" by default, "ruling" that the paper should compensate the plaintiff". it further threatened to issue an "injunction order" against the paper.

the british hongkong authorities' illegal "sentence" of the "wen wei pao" is an important step in their premeditated, planned destruction of patriotic journalism in hongkong. since august, they have illegally ordered the suspension of the "nongkong evening news", the "afternoon news", the "Lin fung daily news and the "youth's garden". now they are using the *charge" of "Libel" to persecute the "ta kung pao" and the "ching po daily".

fascist british hongkong authorities. the "wen wei pao" has completely ignored õlivier's intimidation. at a meeting held on november 24, all the workers and employees of the paper strongly condemned the fascist outrages committed by the british hongkong authorities. speakers at the meeting pointed out that the british hongkong authorities' persecution of patriotic journalism was a manifestation of their fear of the propagation of the invincible thought of mao tse-tung and of the reporting of the heroic anti-violence struggle waged by the patriotič chinese against the british hongkong authorities. the meeting agreed that: "therefore, we must hold still higher the great red banner of mao tse-tung's thought and do an even better job of propagating the immensely brilliant thought of mao tse-tung.

patriotic chinese of all walks of life in hongkong have issued statements or have written to the "wen wei pao" during the past few days expressing their firm support for the paper's just struggle. in a joint statement on november 25, fourteen patriotic papers and news organisations, including the "wen wei pao", the *ta kung pao" and the "hsin wan pao", declared that all patriotic journalists and all patriotic chinese in hongkong would redouble their efforts to counter-attack against the british imperialists' provocations. end item
