Reactions in Hong Kong to the Government's recent approach

to the EE.C.: Hong Kong's trading relationships with the

Community, both in the context of possible British membership

and otherwise, have been the subject of public discussion for

some time, and the present British approach has not provoked

any new comment. At one time last year, Hong Kong showed

some interest in concluding a trade agreement with the

Community, independently of British membership, but this was

not pursued,
