In connexion with the (Bigning] today of the

Anglo-Benelux Agreed Minute on Trade I have the

honour to inform you that the following is my

understanding of the situation:-

(a) In the event of the United Kingdom

finding it necessary to reimpose bilateral

quotas for the import of processed milk

consultations will take place with the Govern-

ments of the Benelux countries before the

expiry of the current period of validity of

the Agreed Minute with a view to determining

quotas for each country having regard to all

relevant factors including trade in these

products in the twelve months prior to 1st

\April 1960.

(b) The United Kingdom representatives daid

that they were fully familiar with the special

interests of the Benelux countries in export-

in canned and bottled apples to the United

Kingdom and would do their utmost to take

account of them should the United Kingdom

find it necessary to reimpose bilateral

quotas on the import of these products.
