EEC and EFTA Clauses

1. We proposed the omission of the usual EEC and EFTA · clauses in view of our application for membership of the

former and because the points embodied were already provided

A. rsed Kinute for more generally in paragraph 6 of the draft. If the Benelux countries request the reinstaɣement of the EEC clause, as they are bound to do in fulfilment of their EEC obligations we can agree provided the EFTA clause is also reinstated. The latter will need to be amplified to take

account of the Anglo Irish Free Trade Area.
