I am replying to your leiter of 29 July about the proposal for a new nume for the Hong Kong Police.

Although this matter was discussed with the Governor of Hong Kong during his visit to this country in May, no final conclusion has yet been reached. However, in the light of Lt. Commander Lynch Maydon's reminder we are asking the Governor to let us have his conclusions es quickly as possible.

Meanwhile I suggest that the reply to Lt. Commander Lynch Maydon might be along the lines of the attached draft.
