COPY FOR RESISTRATION

Addressed to Foreign Office telegram No. 214 of 16 May. Repeated for information to: Hong Kong.

(56) Hong Kong telegram No. 616 to C.0.:

H.M. Consul Macao.

In view of apparent urgency this matter was raised again

today with the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He repeated the assurances already given, referred to the tenuous nature of the Portuguese position in Macao, and requested that Consul should maintain close liaison with Portuguese authorities and follow their advice. He undertook to have instructions sent to the Governor asking him to ensure safety of Consul and his staff.

Foreign Office pass Immediate Hong Kong as my telegram No. 3.

Sir A. Lambert

[Repeated as requested].
