The same happened when someone suggested pasting hand- written posters and slogans; every organisation had a go`at it, until it proved to be not going down so well in places like Hong: Kong and Macao. The experience of the recent Cheung Sha Wan Road incident was, that the original idea was to have their Mao study groups in the playground with someone unobtrusively posting a few portraits of Mao and a few slogans, but soon it got out of hand because every organisation involved wanted to have a part in it. This led to the development of a situation far beyond what was intended, which in turn irritated the residents in the neighbourhood, which in turn brought the Police to the scene

to interfere.

4. Violence is not Chairman Mao's policy or strategy, but de. Civil as against Militant forms of quarrels, contest, provocation or fighting is definitely Communist policy. Not only is continued quarrel, contest, provoke or fight Communist policy and tactics but is in fact a Communist way of life. They quarrel, contest, provoke or fight, even over a cup of tea. One can see that Chairman Mao fights against Ljui Sha Che, and Party factions are fighting each other all over China. One can also see the dead bodies floating down the rivers recently which came down from Kwangsį, You may well accept the fact that an endless series of quarrels, contests, provocations and fights, will henceforth become part of life in Hong Kong, because of the Communist presence and China's interest in Hong Kong, but it is quite a different matter when you come to think in terms of China taking back Hong Kong, or in terms of resorting to violence to end or subdue the British Authorities in Hong Kong. The latter are clearly not the intention or the policy of Peking. If Peking really wants to take back or ruin Hong Kong she can do sc at any time by any of the many variety of methods.
