POLAD Singapore Washington

My telegram No. 241 to Hong Kong.

There has been a lot of publicity on B.B.C. about operations carried out by Enterprise against North Viet Nam shortly after she left Hong Kong.

I understand the present arrangement is that Americans have agreed to exclude publicity about ships immediately prior to visits to Hong Kong. Publicity immediately afterwards is nearly as bad, and I wonder whether the Americans could be persuaded to forgo this too, though I realise their difficulties and that people in the United States like to hear what their boys are doing.

Foreign Office please pass Washington 192.

Mr. Hopson
