Visits of U.S. ships.

U.S. Naval Authorities have now asked for clearance for a visit by the cruiser CANBERRA (my telegram No. 368) between 13th and 18th April.

2. Timing is a bit awkward since the ship would arrive only two days after departure of BONHOMME RICHARD, but a re- arrangement of programme would apparently be difficult and I hardly think that we can sustain objections to the visit on this or other grounds now.

3. U.S. Authorities are therefore being informed that we would have no objection to the visit, subject to any political developments as a result of visit of BONHOMME RICHARD.
