Apartment block becomes
1st class hotel
THE Equatorial Hotel at the corner of Bukit Timah Road and Stevens Road, a short distance from Singapore's golf courses, was originally planned as a multi-storey block of 59 luxury apart- ments.
Designs had been completed and the structure erected for a cross- shaped block with a central service core and one apartment per wing when in 1967, the Singapore Government in- troduced incentives to encourage the construction of new hotels.
