Medical staff block from south east

where the kitchens and the main en- trances are located, the staff quarters block is connected to the main hos- pital by means of a covered walkway which, because of the difference of relative levels of the two buildings, has access to the hospital at the fourth floor. This walkway was de- signed primarily for use during monsoon rains and typhoons.

Married Officers' Quarters

The married officers' quarters is a part seven- and part four-storey block of reinforced concrete frame construction carried on raft founda- tions. It is sited between the main hospital block and the medical staff quarters block and contains eleven quarters four four-bedroom flats and seven three-bedroom flats. It is connected with the hospital in the same way as the staff quarters block.

Asian_Staff Quarters

Sleeping and dining accommodation for 54 locally employed hospital domestic staff is provided in a three- storey block sited in the north-east corner of the site. On each floor is a double bedroom and dormitory of 16 beds, with kitchen and general pur- pose room on the ground floor.

This is a reinforced concrete frame building standing on strip foundations. It is connected at top floor level with the hospital by way of the covered walkway from the staff quarters block.

A large visitors car park is laid out in front of the hospital, while space at the rear of the building is reserved for ambulances and official vehicles.

Concrete Design

All reinforced concrete design for the hospital was carried out in ac- cordance with the London Building Constructional Bye-Laws (1952) and British Standard Code of Practice C.P. 114 (1957). Wind loadings were in accordance with Hong Kong Building Ordinance No. 68 (1955) (Reprint January 1960).
