ject of a model analysis carried out at Southampton University, UK.

Two hard-surfaced tennis courts have been laid within the hospital area. The remainder of the adjoining King's Park site is given over to an army sports ground on which a pavi- lion will be added later. At present a hockey pitch, football pitch and rugby pitch have been levelled out and turfed. It is hoped to add a children's playground on a used level part of the site. Another level part

has been earmarked for 25 married soldiers quarters.

Medical Staff Quarters

The staff quarters block is also tee- shaped with a 14-storey wing for officers and a ten-storey wing for other ranks. It provides messing and living accommodation for single members of the staff of all ranks and both sexes.

The main wing is 185 ft. long and 40 ft. wide and the projecting wing 140 ft. long and 26 ft. wide. Con- struction is the same as for the hos- pital but on a smaller scale and the building is carried on raft foundations 5 ft. thick, with a movement joint provided between the high and low rise sections of the block to allow for differential settlement.

The foundations are designed for a maximum bearing pressure of 1.25 tons per sq. ft., which is increased to 1.75 tons per sq. ft. for wind loading.

The various messes are located on the lower floors and the upper floors provide sleeping and sitting room accommodation for 147 persons.
