Progress on container complex for Singapore

THE first section of a new container complex at East Lagoon, Singapore - a 700ft. (210 m) long feeder wharf has been completed and handed over three months ahead of schedule.

venture are making excellent progress on the project which is being carried out for the Port of Singapore Auth- ority at a total cost of some S$45.5 million.
On final completion, due late in 1972, an additional 2950 ft. (900 m) in all of berthing for large container
ships of up to 950ft. (290 m) in length, will have been provided, to- gether with a total additional deck area of 14 million sq.ft. (116,000m2) for the storage and handling of con- tainers.
Already among the first five of world ports in terms of shipping ton- nage handled, Singapore will be fur- ther established as a result of this scheme which has been designed for the Port Authority by Sir Bruce White, Wolfe Barry & Partners of London with the port's chief engineer, Mr. A. Vijiaratnam responsible for the pro- ject.
