Extensive built-in furniture and services have been designed to meet the various functions of the well equipped laboratories and special rooms, and where necessary mechani- cal extracts fans are installed to aid ventilation.
The auditorium block with a floor area of 8,600 sq. ft. caters also for in- door sports. Accommodating 1,200 pupils in assembly, it features an eleva- ted stage complete with stage lighting and equipment. Ventilation louvres are installed close to the ground on the external walls and ventilation fans are positioned high at the auditorium roof.
The shape of the auditorium allows many different seating arrangements and gives the flexibility needed for variety performances.
Like most school projects in Hong Kong, St. Catherine's School was sub- ject to a tight budget control. It is a subsidised school: Government pro- viding an 80 per cent grant towards the cost of construction and a ten per cent interest-free loan to enable the project to get under way without un- due delay.
