Explaining the data bank, he says that this is in fact a central information system which seeks to integrate the collection, storage and utilisation of data by various Government departments, statutory boards and other agencies.

Thus there will be one single source for not only centralising relevant data but also storing, assembling and reissuing such data in useable form and at speed. Duplica- tion of data collection and storage is also eliminated.

THAI ROAD CONTRACT

THE Swedish contractors, Sentab, and the Italian com- pany, Vianini, of Rome, have jointly been awarded a contract worth about US$11 million for the construction of a 150 kilometre highway in Thailand.

Linking the cities of Lomsak and Wichienburi, the highway forms part of a large-scale road-building pro- gramme being carried out by the Thai Government with the aid of World Bank loans.

Designed by the American consulting engineers, Leuw, Cather International Inc., the project includes some 50 bridges. Work will begin this month and is scheduled to be completed in 1970.

Contracts for the remaining 133 kilometres of the Saraburi Lomsak highway have been placed with two Taiwanese companies, the Pan Asia Co. Ltd, and B.E.S. Co. Ltd.

SINGAPORE ENTERTAINMENT BUILDING

A FOUR-STOREY theatre-night club, the first building of its kind in Singapore, is being constructed on a 25,000 sq. ft. site at Scott's Road, near the junction of Orchard Road. Estimated to cost about $$11⁄2 million, the club is due for completion before the end of the year. It has

been designed by Kee Yeap and Associates, for Vermont Realty Ltd., and will be operated by a new organisation. International Associates Ltd. Interior decor is by Wili Fernandez and Associates of Manila.

On the first floor of the building, which will be known as the Tropicana Niteclub, will be the theatre and a Chinese restaurant-night club. The restaurant will have floors at different levels to provide diners with an unin- terrupted view of the 60 ft. stage.

Construction of the stage, which will have sliding. elevating and revolving mechanisms. is being undertaken by Sansei Yosohi Co. Ltd., of Osaka,

The ground floor will contain another restaurant, serving European and Indonesian food, and other floors will include bars, lounges and offices. The foyer at ground level will have a rock garden with a wall fountain and a spiral staircase leading up to the theatre-night club.

The contractors are Hua Ta Construction Co., the consulting engineer, Eugene Chan, and the quantity sur- veyors, Contract Services Group.

INDUSTRIAL SITES BY INSTALMENT

HONG KONG Government has accepted a recommendation by the inter-departmental Industrial Sites Co-ordination Committee to offer intending buyers of industrial sites at Sam Ka Tsuen easy terms of paying the land premia by instalments.
