The LS-3500 has a high ground clearance of 22 in., with a clean, flat underbody. Automatic spring-applied digging brakes hold it steady on any gradient. Level-bottom digging depth is 8 ft. at 19 ft. reach and clear dump- ing height is 17 ft. 10 in.

The W71 is powered either by a Villiers Mark 25 petrol engine, produc- ing 2.75 b.h.p. at 2200 rp.m, or by a Petter AB1 diesel engine producing 3.4 b.h.p. at 2200 rpm. Engines are both air-cooled, single-cylinder four-strokes, and are easily interchangeable.
Both versions have the same vibrator assembly an eccentric roll shaft running in ball bearings at 4500 rpm. It produces high frequency vibra- tion isolated to 97% efficiency, ensur- ing average magnification of com- paction force at the ground in the region of 7,500 lb.
The traction drive is totally isolat- ed from the vibratory system so that wear, resulting from vibration, is elimi- nated. Adjustable roll scrapers and water sprinkling system for work on blacktop are fitted.
