Work is scheduled to begin in December on a 26-storey tower office block (right) for American International Assurance Co., Ltd. The site is at 1 Stubbs Road, Hong Kong Island.

Covering an area of 42,467 sq. ft., the building will rise 288 ft. It is estimated to cost HK$16 million,

Architects, Palmer and Turner, have designed 21 storeys above the Stubbs Road level and five floors below that level. Each typical floor in the tower provides 6,000 sq. ft. of office space, free of supporting columns. A new construction method is to be used in which the external walls are constructed of precast reinforced concrete units with post-tensioned diagrid floors.

Thomas, Anderson and Partners are the consulting engineers for the design of the air-conditioning and electrical installations.

The new Bank of Canton building (above) at 6 Des Voeux Road in Central Hong Kong will be clad entirely in granite facing slabs. It will be a steel-framed structure, comprising a podium of ground, mezzanine and first floors, with a rectangular tower from second to 20th floor. There will be two basement levels beneath the podium and a services floor on top of the tower.

Piling for the HK$20 million building has been completed and the general construction contract will be placed in the new year. The podium is due for completion in January 1967 and the whole building in January 1968. The total floor area will be 142,000 sq. ft.
