Some New Buildings

One of the tallest buildings yet proposed for Hong Kong Island is the composite steel and reinforced concrete framed struc- ture (left) planned on a site bounded by Hennessey Road, Lee Garden Road and Kai Chiu Road.

S.E. Faber and Partners are the architects and engineers, and J. Roger Preston and Partners are the consultants for mech- anical and electrical services. The building developers are Lee Hysan Estate Co., Ltd.

Work is expected to begin next year on the fully air conditioned building which will comprise basement, ground and 31 floors. Ground to fourth floor will be shopping arcades; a restaurant will occupy the entire fifth floor; the sixth will be a service floor and above this level will rise 23 floors of flats. The top two floors will contain a night club and restaurant.

The largest shops and offices development yet undertaken in Kowloon is due for completion next year. Known as the Tung Ying Building, it will have 17 floors and a total volume of about 4,000,000 cu. ft. The site is at the junction of Nathan Road and Granville Road.

Architects are T.C. Yuen and Co. Super- structure contractors are Hsin Chong Co., Ltd., and piling was by Gammon (H.K.) Ltd.

Construction of an anti-cancer home cost- ing about HK$2 million will begin at Aberdeen next month. Tenders for the site formation work are being considered.

Architect, P. K. Chan, has designed the buildings for the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society. The structural consultant is H. C. Leung.

The reinforced concrete framed build- ings will be stepped down on the site which has a steep gradient. Accommo- dation for 100 beds will be provided when the home is completed at the end of 1966.
