place, rigid back supports on all except the narrow support bracket and stop- end give extra strength to the canti- levered construction, and integral fix- ing tabs on the sides of the fittings make provision for screwing them to a fascia board.

Vertical stops on the inside edge of the nozzle and drop-end fittings control gutter expansion, making it impossible for any gutter length to shift sideways over an outlet hole. Two expansion nibs, situated in the centre of each connecting bracket under the return flanges on both sides, ensure that the correct expansion gap is al- ways left during the installation of adjacent gutter lengths.

GRADER

The Galion Iron Works and Manu- facturing Co., Galion, Ohio, USA, have introduced a medium-size motor-grader with power shift transmission. Desig- nated the T-400, it weighs 22,000 lb. and is powered by a 120 h.p. diesel engine.

A bucket seat gives the operator safety and comfort and a low breast- plate allows him good visibility of the baldework. The drawbar is moved laterally by a cylinder side shift to give the grader a wide reach.

Fitted with Grade-O-Matic drive a combination of torque converter, output shaft governor and power-shift transmission the T-400 has full hydraulic controls and hydraulic power steering.

SITE HUT

Glass-fibre workman's shelters in the Rozelta range, manufactured by Plastic Industrialised Houses Ltd., are weather resistant, durable and free of maintenance. They have the further ad- vantage of being easily moved between site.

At present, the shelters come in two sizes: the RS/2 for two or four persons and the RS/6 for six to eight person, with overall dimensions of 5 ft. 3 in. wide by 5 ft. 1 in. high by 3 ft. 10 in. and 6 ft. 8 in. long re- spectively. Both versions feature hand- moulded walls and roofs, braced with ribs to give additional strength and rigidity..

Carrying handles are fitted at each corner so that the light shelters can

be manoeuvred by two or four men. Standard colours are yellow or a nat- ural finish, but any B.S. colour can be ordered.

The shelters are marketed by Wy- bone Industrial Sales, 'The Gables,' Darfield Road, Cudworth, Yorks, UK.

PROTECTIVE COATING

A weather-resistant aggregate sur- face finish known as Minkote is now available from Mineralite Ltd., Wettern House, Dingwall Road, Croydon, Sur. rey, UK. The coating is built up from crushed granite, glass and similar dur- able aggregates bound in situ with high- strength acrylic resin.

Application needs no special skills and is carried out in three stages. Any sound, dry surface may be treated, and Minkote is suitable for ceilings and soffits as well as vertical surfaces.

The base coat, supplied in colours to match the chosen aggregate, may

be applied by brush or spray, and the aggregate is then added either by a Pajarito hand-operated ejector or by a Morganite spray gun with a 3/8in. nozzle. Approximately 24 hours is then allowed before the final operation of applying a glaze coat.

The manufacturers have used ac- celerated-ageing tests to show that the colour and appearance of Minkote re- mains unchanged after five or six years of weathering. Specimens have also been tested for permeability, and show that the coating has more than ten times the resistance to water penetra- tion required by the British Standard for concrete roof titles.

CLEANING MACHINE

Lorries, machinery and heavy plant can be cleaned quickly with the Lister DEP. mobile power washer recently introduced by R.A. Lister & Co., Ltd., Dursley, Gloucestershire, UK. The ma- chine utilises the automatically-lubri-

cated Lister D.E.P. double-acting piston pump and comes in two models, No. 5 and 6, driven by an electric motor and a petrol engine respectively.

The h.p. single-phase electric motor that powers the Model 5 gives a throughput of 180 g.p.h. at 360 1.p.m., while the 1-h.p. four-stroke air-cooled Villiers engine in the Model 6 increases the pumping rate to 250 g.p.h. at 500 r.p.m. Both models op- erate at a working pressure of 100 p.s.i. and produce a maximum suction lift of 25 ft.

Mounted on trolley bases, with two 7 in. diameter rubber-tyred wheels and a tubular-metal handle which ex- tends downwards to act as a third support, the two versions of the washer are both controlled by means of a key- operated water cock, designed to direct water through the hose for spraying, or to recirculate it through the pump.

ONE-COAT PAINT

A new vinyl latex exterior low lustre white paint called Vyn-L-Guard W104 is claimed to give one coat coverage over any colour and to have a durability of ten years.

It dries in 20 minutes, covers ap- proximately 450 sq. ft. to the gallon and bonds in damp weather. Adelphi Paint & Colour Works, 8600 Dumont Avenue, Ozone Park, New York, USA are the makers. Agents are Pornchai Sa- pankwai Ltd., Thailand, and Chining Co., Hong Kong.

DOOR CLOSERS

Among a number of improvements made to the Concord range of door closers are three new finishes and a choice of optional extras, including a flat arm, and delayed and back-check actions. Adjustable power shoes allow for a 15 per cent alteration in the door control.

The new finishes are gold-bronze or brown for the complete fitting, or with the arms in matt black. A neater appearance is claimed for the flat arm, but the standard adjustable arm is still recommended for applications involv- ing difficulties such as rising butts.

For situations where it may be necessary to hold open a door for passage of a trolley, a delayed-action closer is available in a style identical to the rest of the range. The use of a hydraulic valve with the rack-and- pinion mechanism provides for installa- tion of hydraulic back-check, where required, to protect the hinges and closer from forcible opening.

Eaton, Tale & Towne Inc., Willen- hall, Staffs, UK, are the makers.
