TILES
A Melbourne firm, Walker Cera- mics, is manufacturing a range of tiles made by a method developed at the CSIRO Division of Building Research.
Flat or sculptured to give a bas- relief effect, the tiles are made mainly from basalt or bluestone, obtained in finely divided form as a by-product from quarries. The basalt, with a grain size of about 1/8 in., is mixed with clay and water. The tiles are then formed either by pressing the resulting paste The chair is constructed on a 7/8 in. or by pouring the slurry into porous
