Asian hotels' colourful interiors
Step into the lobby of any one of S.E. Asia's newly completed ho- tels and you have foresaken the grey turmoil of the outside world for an environment of colour and studied elegance.
Nowhere is this transformation more acutely felt than in the Ma- nila Sheraton lobby (right). Two floors high, it features three huge chandeliers composed of capiz shell discs, cut glass and pencil lights.
The main entrance lobby of the Hotel Malaysia (below) is also mar- ble floored, with a black and white pattern delineating the approaches to the coffee shop on the left and the Orchid Bar on the right. The Batik mural is by Seah Kim Joo. Architects, Alfred H.K. Wong, de- signed the glass tube chandelier.
