ROADS OFFICE
Extensive repairs and resurfacing work was carried out in Hong Kong. Kowloon and New Territories including 47 works on private account.
New works in Hong Kong included the completion of u new car park in Statue Square, the raising and reconstruc- tion of Queen's Road Central in vibrated concrete between Ice House Street and Padder Street. The reconstruction of Queen's Road East, between the Monument and Stubbs Road was commenced; work was also in hand on the realignment and reconstruction of Keswick Street.
In Kowloon works included the reconstruction of Nathan Road between Waterloo Road and Gascoigne Road including installation of new traffic islands. Other work completed was the approach road to Radio-Sonde Station and Sai Yeung Choi Street fronting K.I.L. 1203.
In the New Territories extensive terracing. channelling and laying of footpath were carried out in the development of Wo Hop Shek and Sandy Ridge Cemeteries and footpaths, road surfacing and channelling around Grand Theatre, Tsun Wan. together with paths and access road to Tsun Wan Police Station were completed. Survey for widening and realignment of mile 9 to 10. Castle Peak Road, has been completed.
Production at Morrison Hill Quarry amounted to 4.534 tons of tarmacadam and 3.608 tons of tartops, and at Hung Shui Kin Quarry, 3,063 tons of spalls and 2,149 tons of crushed stone. Two mobile crushers in operation in this Quarry are now working satisfactorily. At Hok Un Quarry the produc- tion amounted to 12.324 tons of spalls, 12.182 tons of crushed stone. 2,348 tons of tarmac and 5.296 tons of tartops. VALUATION & RESUMPTION OFFICE
Total valuation of 4 lots for lease renewals amounted to $145,200.00; for resumption purposes. estimated valuation for road re-alignment amounted to $50,000.00, while resump- tion notices were posted on 77 lots: 3 lots were valued for exchanges at $51.468.00: and 110 hereditaments were valued at $4,306,800.00.
Total valuations submitted for Government property values, purchases by Government, Town Planning scheme, depreciation funds, etc. amounted to $6,252,400.00,
WATERWORKS OFFICE
The total amount of water in storage on 31st December, 1950, was 4,532 million gallons as against 4,702 million gallons on the same date in 1949, a decrease of 170 million gallons.
The new workshop at Argyle Street, Kowloon, was completed and occupied on 11th December, 1950. Boring works were completed during this quarter at the site for the new Alexandra Building and for the Port Works Office near Murray Pier in connection with the Central Reclamation scheme, while boring continued at Lai Chi Kok Hill.
The tender from Messrs. Wa Hing & Co. was accepted for the erection of R.G. Filters at Red Hill and work was commenced.
