ROOF VENTILATOR

Permanite Ltd., 455 Old Ford Road, London, E.3, are marketing the Hydro- vent, a roof screed which, can be in- stalled as part of a roofing contract or can be fixed on an existing roof where entrapped water is proving trouble-

some.

The Hydrovent is claimed to re- move far more water from a light- weight screed than other vents pre- viously offered for this purpose. This is attributed to the incorporation of an

evaporator tube in the unit which is set about 2in. deep in the screed and fixed in position with an absorbent

cement.

A plastics base is used with built-up felt roofing and a galvanised metal one with asphalt roofing. The unit stands about 12in. high over the roof.

MEASURING TAPES Thunder Screw Anchors Ltd., Vic- toria Way, Burgess Hill, Sussex, UK, have been appointed exporters for a range of French-made measuring tapes which gives the user a choice between 7ft. and 10ft. (2m and 3m) tape lengths,

and cases of nylon or chromium-plated metal.

Each case features a steel tape blade, stove enamelled in white with a plastic film protection; inch and milli- metre graduations on both faces; a slid- ing end lock; and a clear plastic win- dow in the top to give direct readings of inside measurements.

Models 116 and 143 (shown on the left) both have in. wide (13mm.) 7ft. tapes and nylon cases. The 125 (third from the left) houses a 1⁄21⁄2in. wide 10ft. tape in a nylon case, and the 118 (lying flat) has a in. 7ft. tape in a metal case. It also incorporates a tape-locking device to permit the user to trace circles

with a radius equivalent to the reading shown in the top window.

The largest of the five models, No. 131 (shown top right), comes in a square metal case measuring 2% by 3 by in. (69 by 76 by 13 mm.) and containing a 5/8in. wide (16mm.) 10ft. tape. To the extra features of the 118, it adds a shock-proof spirit level for making horizontal and vertical checks.

SURVEYING INSTRUMENT Said to be accurate to within 1⁄2 per cent, the Danish-made Gemini vehicle trip counter measures distances down to 1/100 of a mile or 10m., depending on the initial setting. It is easily install- ed and recommended for use by any- one engaged upon accurate surveying.

Each Gemini unit consists of a trip counter, a reduction gear unit and the necessary connecting cables. Housed in a black plastic case, measuring 61⁄2in. long by 2-9/16in. high by 1-7/8in. wide (165 by 65 by 48mm.), the counter incorporates three Veeder-type counter dials, one on the left operating in units of 1/10 mile or 100m, and two on the right giving readings in units of 1/100 mile or 10m. The two identical right- hand dials enable the user to let one operate continuously while using the other to measure intermediate dis- tances along the run.

Single push buttons on the right of each dial reset the figures to zero when required, and two pairs of buttons - one for the left-hand dial and one for

100.

the two right-hand dials provide for forward and reverse counting. If de- pressed into a half-way position, these forward/reverse buttons disconnect the counting trains from the instrument's drive mechanism.

Suitable for either 6v, or 12v. sys- tems, the counter can be mounted on a vehicle dashboard by means of four screws in its backplate. Installation is a simple matter of connecting the re- duction gear unit to the vehicle's original speedometer cable and then attaching two further cables to drive the counter and speedometer. The gear ratio is preset to suit individual vehicle requirements.

Export agents are G.A. Stanley Palmer, Ltd., West Molesey Trading Estate, East Molesey, Surrey, UK.
