on the ground floor of the east-west wing close to the school main en- trance. All laboratories and special rooms are also housed in this block. The library and the majority of class- rooms are located in the north wing which overlooks a public park on the other side of Shui Ning Street.

A third block, the gymnasium/as- sembly hall, is built at right angles to the west of the north wing, thus pro- viding car parking space between the hall and the main entrance to the school which is at the junction of the two main blocks. A secondary stu- dent entrance is provided on the first lower ground floor where the student games room, tuck shop, and medical examination room are located.

Car parking satisfies the lease con- ditions for 26 car spaces. Space for 13 cars is laid out next to the front area and space for a further 13 is allowed next to the basketball court. In this way the second parking area may be used for student activities; it is approached by a drive around the site boundary with entrance from Shui Ning Street, so segregating child- ren and vehicles.

The school building is constructed of reinforced concrete with brick and concrete panel walls. It is founded generally on rock but a soft area was found at the junction of the two classroom blocks, which is the school's circulation area,

In view of the urgency of the project, instead of caisonning, the area was stabilised by grouting in two stages the perimeter and then the inner area. A raft foundation was then constructed over the grouted area.

Building to the north of the cir- culation area is seperated by an ex- pansion joint and building on the east side by a construction joint. The circulation area was completed to full height and allowed to settle before be-

ing joined to the remainder of the Main staircase connecting classroom wing and science block

building which is founded on isolated

spread footings.
