The use of well-balanced window areas with large picture windows, flanked by well-proportioned side sections, the wide high French windows leading on to terraces and balcony, and the clever balancing of plastered external surfaces with natural stone relief, makes this an outstanding example of modern architectural art,
The design of the building itself embodies features of comfort and convenience which are accepted so casually as natural requirements and yet are so seldom found in the completed building. In this house the combining of the dining room and the living room with large terraces adjacent to each area has been particularly well thought out. The kitchen and pantry, adjoining the dining room, are conveniently and unobtrusively placed from the main part of the house, and the small study offers privacy to the occupants if occasion requires. The guest lavatory below the main staircase, the two-car garage, and the service rooms for the servants beyond the garage, complete the amenities on the ground floor level. The actual servants bedrooms are located on a lower level below the garage and are reached by steps from the servants' verandah. Three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and built-in cupboards and each accessible to spacious verandah areas, are located on the upper floor.
The location of the building on a small spur below Blacks Link, overlooking the valley above the Deepwater Bay Golf Course, had to be carefully sited in order to make the best of a restricted area. The resulting lawn area is not large, but combined with the covered terraces provides ample facilities for outdoor living.
