This system of staggered floor levels allows the provision of six closely-linked shopping levels. Voids above each escalator will prevent a sense of isolation between one level and another and will enable shoppers on each level to see and hear some- thing of activity on the others.

GROUND FLOOR

At ground floor level. the hotel and office ends of the building will be separated by the drive in to the hotel main entrance. This entrance will be up a flight of four steps into a large tiled foyer. To the left will be a row of four shops and the manager's office. to the right the porter's room. haggage room and baggage entrance.

Opposite the main entrance will be placed the reception counter and. be- hind it. the 1.152-sq. ft. hotel dining room with a servery giving easy ac- cess to the various service rooms kitchens, dry store. bakery. cold store, etc. Also, off the foyer. will be the lounge. lifts and stairs to the upper floors and. at the end of the building. a 2.880-sq. ft. restaurant and night club equipped with stage. bar and separate kitchen.

For the other section of the build- ing, the entrance will be up a flight of nine steps tie. higher floor level) into a small arcade housing five shops, an office and a bank. as well as lifts to the offices above and stairs. giving access to the drive-in opposite the hotel entrance. An escalator gives shoppers direct access to the floor above.

FIRST FLOOR

At first floor level, the two halves of the building are connected by a short flight of eight stairs to form a single, integrated shopping concourse of 20 shops. In one corner. at the hotel block end. will be a coffee house and a cocktail lounge each having ac- cess to a broad open terrace which it hoped to landscape as a roof garden. At this end of the building too, an escalator will take shoppers to the floor above.

The second floor, forming, like the first. a single shopping concourse (with single-flight access to the levels above and below) will have space for 26 shops. In addition, at the hotel-
