In designing the museum, the Pro- ject architect, Mr. Ho Kok Ho, has projected his idea of the Malayan way of life. A Malayan himself. Mr. Ho has, under the guidance of the Prime Minister, Tengku Abdul Rah- man, toured the villages and towns of Kedah, Tengku Abdul Rahman's home state, to see for himself and absorb the spirit of the people and their way of life.
The result is a building that is aesthetically Malayan and at the same time functionally modern.
Construction of the building gen- erally is of reinforced concrete framework infilled with 9-inch brick walls for the exterior and 4-inch brick walls for the interior. External wall finishing will be of artificial stone rendering.
Floors generally are of reinforced cement finish, with that in the main hall of mosaic tiles from Pakistan. Timber is chosen generally of local woods such as chenghai, balau and teak. Local timber is also used for the wall finish of the main hall.
In keeping with the latest theories in museum design, architectural in- terest in the interior is kept to the minimum, and interest is focussed
