TRUE LIGHT

LIGHT MIDDLE SCHOOL THIRD STAGE

'HIRD. and final. stage of the True Light Middle School, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong was opened by the Governor, Sir Robert Black, on 10 November 1960.

The original True Light School in Hong Kong was in Caine Road, but by 1950 it became clear that neither the site nor the buildings could cope with the growing needs of the school, which was the only private Chinese

secondary school exclusively for girls in Hong Kong.

In 1950 the Government granted 40.000 square feet of land in the wide bend of Ta Hang Road op- posite the Haw Par Mansion and in 1952 the first stage of the new school was completed. Following more grants of land the second stage was completed in 1956.

tory wing which will at a later date house a chapel, library and teachers' quarters, completes a fine, modern secondary school for girls.

The new building adds to existing facilities 28 class rooms, a hand- craft room, a general science room, an audio-vision room, a canteen, a

needlework room. a cooking room. three laboratories (physics, chemis. try and biology), a geography room and three piano practice rooms.

The audio-vision room has raised seating for 100 pupils for lectures and films.

The general science room is in two sections with student work ben- ches and raised seating at either end, and with a sliding blackboard and instructors' table in the centre.

A new stage with changing rooms behind now connects the existing assembly hall with the new building, and enables the assembly hall to be turned into a theatre.

All class rooms have through ventilation, the corridor walls being of pre-cast concrete slabs with louvre windows above and below.

Piano practice rooms are fully insulated against noise and are on the top floor.
