RUBBER RESEARCH INSTITUTE BUILDING

Architects: Iversen & Van Sitteren.

THE new building housing the

office and laboratories of the Rubber Research Institute of Malaya in Ampang Road, Kuala Lumpur, was designed to provide urgently required additional office space for the Botanical Division, Estate Advi- sory Services, Photographic Division, and Administrative Services.

The ground floor contains labora- tories, offices and a herbarium for the Botanical Division, together with a conference room and studio for plant photography. A ramp for bringing in plants is provided facing the glass houses of the Institute.

The conference room has a seat- ing capacity of 104 persons. The studio is also used as a projection room for film shows in the con- ference room. The lower section of this room is also used for staff conferences.

On the first floor are located the offices for estate and smallholders' advisory services and administrative staff, a drawing room for the pre- paration of the Institute's publication material, and developing and printing rooms for the photographic section. The building is fully air-con- ditioned.
