Peak Pavilions Flats-Turfing work in progress.

Queen's Garden Flats-Contract work was completed on 31st May.

Tenants started to move in from 1st June. All uit machinery having arrived, installation work started and is expected to be completed by the first week in August.

King's Park Flats-All reinforced concrete work, includ- ing rool slabs, were completed by the end of May, approxi- mately six weeks ahead of schedule; brickwork and metai window installation are also anead of schedule, but plastering work, joinery work and drainage are a little behind.

Blacks Link Apartments-Work on the buildings was almost completed except for touching up and finishing of floors. Road work had not yet started.

Garden Apartments in Kowloon Tong-This scheme is still awaiting approval.

Severn Road Quarters-Plans and estimates for the rehabilitation of three houses have been forwarded for approval.

North Point Scheme-13 huts were roofed in and installa- tion of sanitary fittings and plumbing in progress,

Government Offices & Workshops-The Furniture Work- shop has been completed and work started on the office extension thereto. The contracts for Offices for Health Au- thorities at Shamshuipo were signed and work commenced on 25th May. Plans and estimates were submitted for P.W.D. Workshop and Garages, but no further instructions received. Sketch plans and estimates were submitted and working drawings proceeding for temporary offices for Fisheries, Agricultural, Civil Aviation Developments, Library and Dis- trict Office New Territories.

Police Stations-Working drawings for Shaukiwan, Hung- hom, Kowloon City Police Stations and for Police Blockhouses in New Territories are proceeding. In the case of the Shauki- wan Police Station tenders had been received.

Work on Police Headquarters Camp, New Territories, was held up pending delivery of asbestos roofing from England.

Work was commenced on Sheungshui Police Station on 28th May,

The site for the Tsun Wan Police Station is now not available.

Rehabilitation of Gough Hill Police Station was completed

in April.

Sketch plans and estimate of costs for the Prison Camp at Ping Shan are to be submitted, but it is expected that the work will be placed in the hands of private architects.

Schools-No further progress has been made on the plans for the Gap Road School, Vernacular Middle School and Kowloon Junior School. Working plans for Works' School on Hennessy Road and in Hunghom have been completed and work is expected to commence shortly.

Miscellaneous-Work was completed on the Third Court, Supreme Court, during June. This included air-conditioning installation. Work on the Repulse Bay Development has been deferred until November. Plans for new Abattoir at Kennedy Town, T.B. Clinics and Sanitorium, Volunteer Headquarters. and Ma Tau Kok Slaughter House are still pending.

CROWN LANDS OFFICE

During April and May, 39 applications for purchase of Crown Land were received, 3 lots amounting to $104,000.00 sold by public auction and 11 lots totalling $1,873,420.00 sold by private treaty. Extension of time for completing Building Covenants were granted on 27 lots, fines being imposed in each case. 110 permits for temporary leasing of Crown Land were issued, the total annual fee amounting to $59,995.00. Routine survey work, the setting out of sites for sale and town planning, reconstruction of records and permanent survey works continued.

DRAINAGE OFFICE

In addition to the routine work of this department, such as general maintenance work, clearing of sewers, stormwater drains and nullahs, over 70 orders were issued for execution of work on private account and 17 sewer connections made to the Government system. Sewers and stormwater drains were extended by 374 feet and 8 connections made as a result of new land sales.

Work on Causeway Road continued and during this period all stormwater drains crossing the road, the raising of the deck slab over the nullah and practically all other drainage work in connection with this undertaking were completed.

The construction of the 80′0′′ reinforced concrete drain in the Fo Pang Valley is progressing. All piling work was finished and the invert section to within 200'0" of the summit end, and half the upper ring were completed by the end of May.

PORT WORKS OFFICE

Repair work to the various piers continued during the period under review. Work is continuing on the guniting of the sub-structure, grouting to cavities behind sea wall and repairs to fenders at the Jubilee Street Ferry Pier. Repairs to Jordan Road Ferry pier passenger ramp were completed, as were the painting of steelwork to Mongkok Ferry Pier, minor repairs to Shamshuipo Ferry Pier and the extensive repair work to Blake Pier.

Dredging at Cheungchau, during which 17,171 cu. yds. of spoil were dredged, was completed, and at Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter 24,192 cu. yds. were dredged.

Various reclamation schemes now under way include Aberdeen where contract work is proceeding to schedule, Stanton Creek where public dumping is proceeding, and at Kun Tong where the sand-filling of trench for sea foundations is completed.

Investigation by Marine Borings for the second section of the proposed Central Reclamation Scheme continues.

At the Airport, 835 sq. yds. of surface were reconstructed, the "Perimeter Fence" contract is proceeding satisfactorily. Tenders for reconstruction of runways were received and the preparation of the contract for bituminous surfacing is in hand.

VALUATIONS & RESUMPTIONS OFFICE

Valuations made by this Office during April and May in connection with lease renewals amounted to $1,890,102.00. For exchange purposes four lots were valued at $2,300.00, whilst for sundry purposes 20 properties were valued at $2,370,000.00, and Marble Hall Entrance Lodge was valued at $9,500.00. 139 Hereditaments were valued at $2,665,425.10 for Estate Duty and 112 valuations made for other departments totalled $2,511,655.00.

WATERWORKS OFFICE

Rainfall during April and May totalled 9.7 inches as compared with the average rainfall of 16.45 inches.

Good progress continues on the Eastern Filter Scheme. The European quarters were completed and occupied in April. The foundation of the Pumping Station was completed and walling commenced.

The manufacture and laying of 15,000 feet of 24" concrete pipes for Bowen Road is progressing. Construction work on the Wong Nei Chong Filters continues.

About 14,500 feet of new distribution mains and sub- mains were laid during this period. In addition, 1332 feet of 18" cast iron mains were laid in Causeway Road, 1390 feet of 8" asbestos cement pipe in Stanley, and 672 feet of 6" asbestos cement pipe in Tsun Wan.

15,767 accounts for water consumption were issued, 436 demand notes for deposits and 66 services disconnected for infringements.
