half a million people listen daily to the programmes being broadcast from the modern studio building at the corner of Hennessy Road and Arsenal Street. However, few people realize just how much effort goes into this total of 34 hours per day of broadcasting emanating from Rediffusion House and only a visit to the operation can reveal the ramifications of this enterprise so novel to the Far East.
The staff of Rediffusion Hong Kong totals over 300 persons, who are busy from 6.30 a.m. to well after midnight every day of the year attending to the myriad details of the service. A fleet of sixteen vans, trucks and motor cars is continually on the go from one end of the Colony to the other checking installations and network, connecting sub- scribers or doing outside broadcasts from various points.
A special Rediffusion receiving station with an array of scientifically designed aerials and receivers, picks up selections of foreign broadcast programmes and relays them to the listener by private wire. This receiving station, equipped with special high-fidelity receivers, gives him the finest possible reception. No ordinary set can ever include such extensive equipment for countering fading, distortion and interference.
Programmes, which are made up in the Rediffusion studios, feature live talent as well as extensive libraries of the world's finest transcribed and recorded entertainment. These libraries

have been especially arranged by leading broadcast concerns in England. America and Australia.
There is no aerial or receiving set to worry about, no need for electric current or batteries. The loudspeaker, volume control and selector switch, which are supplied by Rediffusion are all that is required.
The building at the corner of Arsenal Street and Hennessy Road, which houses the Rediffusion studios and offices, is a very attractive building of a conservative modern design. Because of the rapid growth of the service in Hong Kong, the premises have recently had to be considerably enlarged to accommodate the additional office space required. This took the form of an addition to the first floor area consisting of three large offices and two small ones with extra wash room facilities. The architect for the building was Mr. W. H. Kwan and the contractors were the Union Construction Co.
