Four new flats in a four-storeyed building are being erected by the South China Morning Post Limited as staff quarters. This building, which is situated at No. 6 Bowen Road, is of extremely modern design and will be located adjoining their existing property.

Because of the limitations of the area, the architects, in order to allow the maximum use to be made of the property, removed the staircase belonging to the existing building and designed the one inside the new building to provide access to both blocks.

Another space-saving feature incorporated in the design is the doubling of the entrance hall as a dining room, the entrance hall having been made large enough to seat six persons at a dining table.

Each flat of the new building will have two bedrooms with one common bathroom, and the three upper apartments will have a large living room. The ground floor apartment, because of the requirements of the entrance hall which leads from the street to the staircase at the rear of the building, will have a smaller combined living-dining room. This positioning of the staircase has enabled the architects to over- come the limitations imposed by the small site and to include a fair-sized verandah and windows to all main rooms over- looking Bowen Road,
