Ibrahim D.K., S.P.M.J., G.C.M.G., K.B.E. (MIL) G.B.E., G.C.O.C. th and the foundation stone was laid by Inche Ibrahim bin Abdul Majid. District Officer of Kluang.

Situated in Merdeka Park. its clock pylon will tower above the surrounding buildings and serve as a land mark in the heart of Kluang. forming one of the major civic centres in the State.

The main entrance foyer is single storeyed with an unusual curved flat roof which adds interest to the adjoining large hall.

The latter has a very interesting feature accentuated by two colon- naded galleries of free-flow shaped columns.

The simple rectangular hall has heen designed to accommodate in the region of eight hundred people with provision for a future gallery extension.

For ventilation the hall will have adjustable louvred blades at dif ferent levels which are capable of sealing out light completely during the day so that cinema shows can be given. A spacious stage to- gether with dressing rooms will provide for special functions and other purposes.

The superstructure is of rein forced concrete generally with 9 inch brick infill. and steel roof trusses are used in roofing the wide

span.

This interesting scheme was un. der the direction of Mr. Ho Kok Hoe A.R.I.B.A. with Mr. Ho Kok Kit A.R.I.B.A. in charge of the project. Both are with Ho Kwong Yew and Sons. General contractor for the building, which will cost M$225,000.00, are Messrs Fong Wan.
