Construction: reinforced concrete frames, with 4 inch clay brick infilling: Redland tiles on 2 inch x 1 inch battens at 18 degree pitch; 2 inch x 4 inch hardwood rafters at 2 feet c/c, softboard ceiling to under- side of roof and a 100-gallon water storage tank above the ceiling.
Adjustible louvres serve as win. dows; all bathrooms have tiled walls and floors, rest of the floors are of
inch cement rendering on 4 inch concrete, walls with cement rendering both interior and exterior; all cross walls are of 4 inch clay bricks. All walls are plastered and painted with washawle distemper.
MERDEKA GARDENS
The Merdeka Gardens housing scheme is located off LaBrooy Road and covers an area of about 50
acres.
On this area, some 300 single. storey terraced houses are being
built, with one block reserved for shophouses, a school reserve of four acres, an open garden space and 20 lots of quarter acre to half acre in size, for detached bungalows.
Here again, all facilities are pro- vided main and approach roads. metalled and tarred, drainage, water, electricity.

Though each lot is 22 feet by 89 feet, the house is only 22 feet by 44 feet, the rest of the land serving as an open front yard.
