Hong Kong’s Kwong On Bank in New Headquarters

In keeping with the prosperity of Hong Kong's banking community. the Kwong On Bank has recently moved into commodious new head- quarters in the city centre.

Situated at the junction of Queen's Rd. Central and Gilman Street, the new bank is 11 storeys high and has all the equipment. appurtenances and facilities demanded by modern banking practice.

In addition to the basement which will house the vaults. safety deposit section containing 4,000 boxes and machine room. the bank will occupy all the ground and 1st floors.

The whole of the area between the 2nd to 10th floors is to be rented as office space. On the 11th floor there is a penthouse, with a bar. and library, for the use of senior mem- bers of the bank's staff.

The whole of the entrance on the ground floor is decorated with mar- ble. On the front and two side elevations blue pearl granite has been used as facing. Above the entranced a pleasing effect has been achieved through the use of Italian terrazzo tiles and glass mosaic tile panels.

The building cost $2,000,000.

The bank's security installation was supplied entirely by Chatwood- Milner Ltd.. (sole agents Shewan. Tomes & Co. Ltd.) including seven vault doors.

The safety deposit installation comprises one 71⁄2 in. main entrance vault door, an emergency door of the same thickness, and 1,260 ren- ter's deposit safes, all in stainless steel finish. There is provision for more of these deposit safcs to be added later.

All locks throughout the bank and offices are Schlage, in alum- inium finish.

The main entrance of the bank has Ajax aluminium frame work. with Pilkington's "Armourplate" glass doors, fitted with special cast aluminium push handles. incorporat- ing the bank's emblem.

In front of the glass doors is an electrically-operated aluminium link
